They would never acknowledge any emails or anything, I’m up to my third reqwuest with no answers. Amazon, says yeah we got the emails, but apparently they don’t do anything about this stuff either when you want to make a simple exchange. I’m still waiting,, They will probably get back and say it’s past thirty days NOw, And I started the day I got it !! Sad , no wonder !

Customer Reviews:
Great Device and Easy to Use This is my first automobile GPS, and I did a lot of research before settling on the Garmin 780. I live in the Washington DC Metro area, so all of the extra features work here. Upon its arrival, I downloaded and installed the latest Garmin WebUpdater v.2.41 and then updated my 780 from software version 2.50 to 2.90. I also updated the Bluetooth and other firmware, along with the languages that I use. This all worked flawlessly in a Windows XP virtual machine on a Linux host. FWIW, the 780 will charge off of the supplied USB cable.
The 780 acquired the necessary satellites in just a few minutes when first activated, and does so in less than a minute for subsequent activations. I found the screen brightness to be fine for both day and night. I’m using the 780 with the Garmin Portable Friction Mount. Smashing windows and stealing GPS devices is the sport of choice in the DC Metro area, so I wanted no evidence of a GPS extant when I left the car. The friction mount works perfectly on my Honda Accord dashboard and stores easily in the center console, leaving no trace of a GPS behind. Very cool. The 780 easily fits in a shirt pocket, so it’s not necessary to leave it in the car.
I tested the 780 immediately by driving during rush hour to a residence across the river in a tangle of park roads off of the beaten track, then returning at night. The Garmin had no trouble creating a very fast route to the destination that bypassed most of the heavy traffic during rush hour. On my return, I bypassed a turn on its preferred routing. It recalculated a new route in less than a second which was the exact right answer. The new route wasn’t a recapture of the original route, which wasn’t possible from that location, but an entirely new route. The routes it picked were appropriate for the times of day traveled, which can be a daunting task here if you don’t know which roads go which direction during the appropriate rush hour. DC is a notoriously difficult area to navigate, but so far the Garmin seems up to the challenge.
I found the volume of the internal speaker to be more than adequate even with the radio, air conditioning, and windshield wipers going. Voice notifications led upcoming turns by an adequate amount, and the voice prompts always helped me get into the correct lanes in plenty of time for upcoming turns. During a particularly tricky section where several major roads converge on a bridge, then diverge on the other side, the Garmin gave almost constant appropriate guidance to ensure that I took the correct forks and turns. I was quite impressed.
The Bluetooth paired quickly with my Motorola Razr V3. It even provided its PIN code at the appropriate time. The phone functions work great and it’s easy to hear over the 780 speaker. The party on the other side of the phone said that I sounded like I was in a tunnel, which is typical for remote devices for autos. I have another BT hands-free device and it garnered the same comments. The Garmin’s on-screen phone cues make hands-free easy.
Activation of the MSN Direct service was simple over the Net. On initial activation of your free 3 month trial, they offer a 6-month extension for $9.95 which gets you to 9 months of service total for less than $10–a very good deal. MSN Direct information took a while to load the initial information, but then it said that in the Quick Start pamphlet. Once loaded, the traffic, weather, and news worked great. Gas prices were behind by several days, which is an eternity these days. My favorite (and cheapest) station wasn’t listed.
Overall, I’m very happy with the 780. I’ll be working it out heavily in the coming weeks, including on a road trip to another city with MSN Direct service. I can’t believe that I waited this long to take the plunge to a GPS device for my car. Even though I’m a master with maps, the Garmin suggested a clever routing that I did not previously discover on my own. From what I’ve seen so far, the 780 will be a highly valued addition to my road warrior kit bag. I can recommend the 780 without reservation.
Great Routing, Lousy Price, Limited Features I purchased a Sony NAVU-83T, a Garmin 680, and a Garmin 780 to compare their features and routing capability. I kept the 780 and returned the others, but it was a very difficult decision.
The Sony unit [...] at Costco, and has a 4.8″ screen (1/2″ larger!). It has one of the best user interfaces on the market, primarily due to a few things: 1) you can always get back to the map by pressing one button, regardless of where you are, 2) you can always get to the main menu by pressing one button, regardless of where you are in the menus, 3) it has a split screen function that gives you lane guidance visually so that you know which lane to get into, well before the turn, 4) it has shortcuts, for instance to GO HOME you make a V shape on the screen and it takes you home…no menu navigation required!
On the down side, the Sony took FOREVER to calculate or re-calculate routes, and in many cases I missed the newly recalculated turn because it took too long to figure it out. It also took longer routes than the Garmin, would avoid commonly used roads for no apparent reason, and would not take me down roads that were shown on the map and clearly the shortest route. Last of all, the Sony took forever to gain a satellite fix once turned on. And the Sony mount was soooo very cool and useful! For $249 you got the cool mount and a nice carrying case. I did not get a chance to use the TMC traffic service.
The Garmin 680 ($349 at Costco) was a fine device, with very fast and accurate routing. It found points of interest quickly and accurately (the Sony often could not find them). However, I really liked the thin size of the 780 and the fact that the antennae was built in, so I kept the 780 in spite of the extra cost.
What do I like about the 780 (and the 680):
1. The MSN Direct is VERY handy and I use it every day for weather, news, fuel costs, and movie listings.
2. Very fast route calculations.
3. I have never looked for a POI that was not present.
4. The tour routes that you can download (for about $12 each) are cool. You can take car tours of a few hours that are laid out for you, telling you where to visit along the route.
5. The ability to sort points along a route is handy. If you have 10 places to go in one day, enter them all in and it puts them in the most efficient order.
6. It can find rest areas on interstates. The Sony could NOT do this, which is annoying when you are trying to figure out if you should stop at a gas station or wait for a rest area when you have three kids in the car on long trip.
What would I change on the 780? Many things, and most of them would cost Garmin no money to implement. These are simple fixes that they should consider!
Bad Points of the Garmin 780:
1. If I go into the menu system, I can go 7 or 8 layers deep to get to what I want to do. To get back to the map, I have to keep pushing the “BACK” button, up to 8 times in a row, to get back to the map. Stupid!
2. If I go into a menu item and decide I’m done, but don’t want to push “BACK” over and over, the unit stays on the menu or submenu screen forever.
3. It would seem that on a unit this expensive it could give you lane guidance. The Sony does. The Tom Tom does. Why can’t this unit, at almost double the cost?
4. When you turn off the car the unit asks if it should stay on or turn off. If you don’t answer, it turns off in 30 seconds. For people who are making deliveries, or running errands, this is a real pain. It would be nice to allow you to configure this once to set how long it should wait before turning the unit off (options like 1 minute, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes, for instance). This would allow you to run into Kinkos and back out again without having to wait for the unit to turn back on, get a satellite bearing, and then finally get to its map to tell you where to go next. Simple software change!
5. It would be nice to have the unit start up on the same screen where you left off. If you were on the map screen, then it should return to the map screen. If on the weather screen, then return to the weather. I like to keep it on the weather, but I have to hit about 6 different buttons every time I turn the unit on to get to the weather! Simple software change!
6. Most GPS units even at half this cost allow you to SEE your speed, direction, and target’s relative direction while on the main map screen. This unit requires you to go to a dashboard screen to show you this information….so you have to choose the map or the dashboard to view. Since some people may not like this feature, it could be configurable. Simple software change!
7. I can’t seem to figure out how to show the satellite signals/connectivity. ALL units have this, even though it is just for fun.
8. For $500 the Garmin should include a carry case for the unit. They sell it small size, light weight, and its “ability to know where you were when you take it out of the cradle, to help you find your car later”, and yet don’t give you way to carry it around safely. Just about every unit on the market, starting at the $149 units, include a case!
9. The 780 does NOT include an owners manual. You have to go online to view the manual, at garmin.com. Garmin may be surprised to know that not everyone has the internet (50% of homes don’t). Although not perfect, the Sony included a fairly comprehensive start up guide and a CD based owners manual.
10. The display looks like a cartoon movie, and that causes a lack of detail. The Sony displayed a very concise map where you could actually identify road splits, acceleration lanes, etc.
11. There is no ability to show POIs on the map. You can route to one, but you can’t just show them. The Sony allowed you to pick which POIs to show, and it actually showed you little BP, Shell, Cracker Barrel, etc. logos on the map so that you could know well ahead of time which POIs were near you.
12. Many units tell you how far to your next turn AND the direction you will be turning in. The Garmin tells you how far to the next turn, but it does not tell you which way to turn until you get within about 2/10 of a mile. So on most multi-lane roads I find myself staying in the middle lane as I get close so that I can go either way. It should warn you which way you will be turning at least a few miles in advance! As soon as you get onto any road the Sony tells you that your next turn is “LEFT 123 MILES”, and it is always displayed on the main map. Handy. Simple software change!
I like the unit, but I only give it 3 stars because of its price, its lack of common sense features, and lack of “in the box” support. It’s strong points are fast, accurate routing and MSN direct.
Very good but not perfect I’m a long time user of GPS devices, both hand held and vehicular. I bought this device to replace a Garmin c550 which, alas, was stolen from my car.
The 780 is much thinner and lighter than the 550 and, presumably, therefore less inclined to fall from the windshield just when you need it most. Tip: If you have trouble with your suction cup falling off after a few days, pop a hard candy into your mouth, suck on it for a bit, then lick the cup and stick it on. This may sound a bit unhygienic but the sugar mixed with saliva makes a great bond with the glass.
The pressures of marketing have motivated manufacturers to load gps routefinders with all sorts of stuff that I suspect few use. For example, in a time when most all new cars come with relatively good sound systems, how many people will use their gps as an mp3 player or am image viewer? Or rely on it as a currency convertor or a calculator? I dunno, maybe people use those all the time. In any case, those and more are all available.
To my surprise, the routefinding engine in the 780 seems slower than the 550, as are the map redraws, even at modest complexity settings. Not slow enough to be bothersome but noticeable by comparison. Unlike another reviewer, I have not found it to recommend inappropriate routes although none of the systems is smart enough to accurately anticipate traffic conditions and thus may put you on an interstate as the “fastest” route and leave you stuck in slow-moving traffic for long periods.
Speaking of traffic, I’m underwhelmed by MSN Direct with regard to either the timeliness or accuracy of traffic condition reporting. Too often a snarl or an accident has just occurred and MSN hasn’t reported it yet or a problem that MSN does report has already been cleared. The other MSN functions work reasonably well, so far as I can tell.
I don’t fault Garmin for either the map or traffic issues which, I think, simply reflect the limited state of the art.
The 2009 NavTech map set is quite complete, even in a rapidly growing urban area like mine. I find, however, that it has a few errors. For example, it thinks my home is four houses down from its actual location, a problem I never noticed with earlier units.
As to physical features, the build quality is excellent and the mount represents a real improvement over the 6xx series. Some have commented about inadequate speaker volume but this hasn’t been an issue for me, even though I have some hearing loss and drive a performance car with a fair bit of engine noise.
As always with Garmin, the GUI is clear, direct, obvious, and intuitive. I haven’t had to glance at the user’s manual a single time. Screen brightness is superior to the 2xx series.
The SiRF Star III chipset and antenna implementation is excellent. Acquisition times are much faster than in the 550 and I have never lost signal, even momentarily, in the canyons of Manhattan.
To summarize…
PROS: Wider screen is definitely worth the money if situational awareness is important to you. Maps are highly detailed and up to date. Screen resolution, color, intensity, and readability are top notch. Menus are simple and obvious. Build quality for both the unit and the mount is excellent. Routing is accurate and appropriate within the limits of the technology. Satellite acquisition is fast and reception is first rate. “Where am I” is convenient and could be life saving. Bluetooth pairs effortlessly, works perfectly, and has excellent sound in both directions. Device is loaded with extras (this may be a con, depending on your POV)
CONS: Routefinding and screen redraws are slower than earlier models. NavTec maps contain some location errors not found in earlier releases. Device is junked up with extras (this may be a pro, depending on your POV) MSN Direct is only marginally helpful with traffic but has other features that may be of interest to some. FM transmitter is essentially useless in an urban setting. Rarely, voice prompts are a little slow.
In short, an excellent product that, with just a few tweaks, would be superb. Well worth the cash if bought at a deep discount.

Customer Reviews:
This is a great television and easy to use. I have had this television for two weeks. I got it after being greatly disappointed with a Vizio 37 inch 1080p. The difference between the two was very noticeable. The picture and sound are far superior. Even when comparing to the 720p LG 37 inch, this one is much better. The television was very easy to set up. The amount of HDMI, component and AV inputs are more than adequate for any standard home theater set up. I read one review that gave this television low marks for not having a headphone jack. I feel that if you are going to get a television of this caliber, you will get a good receiver that supports headphones. I feel that is an unimportant option and I prefer having that fourth HDMI port. The energy saving option is a nice addition, although if you get a lot of sun, you need to keep that setting low during the day. All menu options are easy to navigate. I love that the television knows what types of connections you have. When scrolling through inputs, it highlights the inputs that have devices connected. Overall, this is a great TV and I highly recommend it.
Love it! 1080p @ 120 Hz is sweet! I have had this HDTV for about 2 days now. I upgraded to the 37LH40 from an LG 30″ wide screen 720p/1080i CRT (tube). Right away I noticed a huge difference in clarity/detail with this one in the 1080p mode. I have a PS3 (connected via HDMI), Xbox 360 (via component cable), Directv (HDMI) and a standard upconvert dvd player (via HDMI). The difference between 60Hz and 120Hz could easily be seen when the store demos were scrolling baseball team logos sideways on a black screen. The 60Hz models were jerking the logos while the 120Hz models were MUCH MUCH smoother. I’m looking forward to watching NFL games this year on this LCD! The only things I wish the 37LH40 had is a back-lit remote. The LCD screen comes close to the black color displayed on my previous HDTV tube model, but the blacks are a bit darker on the tube. Perhaps with some more fine tuning, I can get it right. As far as the lack of a headphone jack/speakers, I don’t use them on the tv. I play my sound thru a surround sound system via optical cable from the tv. OVERALL, I’m very happy with the purchase. I gave up a bigger screen size to get the 120Hz model, which I think was worth it for what I will be using the HDTV for.
Great TV, but do your research I basically bought this TV to use as a PC monitor. Between games and movies I wanted that “cinema” experience in my office, not just on the couch in the living room.
I chose the LG based on the stats and reviews. Overall it is a great TV, with easy to use menus and just about all the picture control a person could ever want. The picture control goes beyond most TV’s options with LG’s “expert” picture mode that lets you adjust much more than just contrast and color.
This TV is hooked up to the PC via HDMI and the PC recognized it immediately. It also gives the option of 24hz refresh rate (the pc recognizes it is a 120hz model that will run 24hz without pulldown), so there were two native resolutions available, 1080p/60hz and 1080p/24hz. It really isn’t needed on a PC, but nice to know if you are running a blu-ray player it will accept the 24hz signal without issue (a PC will normally change to 24hz when fullscreen movies are played even if you have it set to 60hz).
The one issue I found with this TV is that there is no PiP. My 2-year old Vizio first generation LCD has PiP, why wouldn’t a brand new 120hz model have the same? No PiP falls just short of a deal breaker, but I can live without it. The idea was to be able to watch TV in the PiP while browsing the net or working, but that is out the window.
I would like to say that most people are not going to like the “TruMotion” option that 120hz TV’s offer. The LG TruMotion does work, but I have found that the picture is so surreal that it is uncomfortable to watch. This has been the case on every 120hz TV I have seen EXCEPT the Sony Bravia XBR series. The Sony engine just seems to retain the cinema feel while adding the additional smoothness to the picture. If you are on the fence between the two then definitely consider the Bravia, the price difference is worth it, expecially considering you will be keeping a TV like this for years. The TruMotion is great for sports though, it almost feels more like looking through a window than watching a screen.
The performance of this TV has been outstanding so far (excluding TruMotion). Just comparing it to my Vizio 47″ 1080p 60hz there is a big difference. Tearing that was present in some movies and all games on the Vizio is completely gone with the LG. Scrolling and fast movement are very smooth and clear, and the color depth is outstanding. Movies really stand out in 720p or less and much of the graininess is gone vs my older Vizio. In 1080p the clarity of the screen stands out and even sitting only about 3-4 feet away it looks great.
The sound is good, but nothing great. There are options like voice clarity that I really like, it helps keep the volume reasonable and you can still hear voices from shows/movies very well.
The design is nice, there is a LED on the bottom that moves when you power it on, just a gimmick item that makes it look nice. The bezel is rather large, about twice the size of my Vizio 47″, but in all honesty you don’t notice it. The only drawback is the bezel is a highly reflective black and any light behind me reflects. Consider that when buying. The screen is not a glossy screen, but it does have a tiny bit of reflection to it… my guess is that the enhanced contrast ratio this TV has requires the screen to be darker making it reflect a little more than an older LCD might.
Overall a great purchase. There certainly is a difference in picture quality between this and older 60hz LCD’s. Personally I rate the XBR Bravia LCDs a little higher, but you also pay for that difference. I know there are a lot of people like me looking to get an HDTV for use as a monitor, if you are then you will enjoy this TV. Just remember that you need to take at least a few hours and really set the picture how you like it because right out of the box it looks good but with some tweaking you can get this screen to do some amazing things.
I also want to add that Amazon shipped this TV out very fast and the Pilot carriers who delivered the TV were great (I also got free shipping). They actually called and delivered it on Saturday since they had so many Christmas orders from Amazon. I declined, but the Pilot driver offered to bring it into my house and unbox/power it up to make sure everything was working. If you are worried about having a TV like this delivered (like I was), you don’t need to be.

Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?
|
With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience. If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.
- Minimum size = Viewing distance/3
- Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

Compare Prices on Axis 214 Ptz Network Camera Pan Tilt Zoom Day/night 2 Way Audio
AXIS 214 PTZ Network Camera is a high performance camera for professional surveillance and remote monitoring. It combines a high quality color camera with the flexibility of remote pan/tilt/zoom operations. The 18x optical motorized lens with auto focus allows the user to zoom in on a small or distant object with exceptional clarity.
- Amazon Sales Rank: #26894 in Consumer Electronics
- Brand: Axis
- Model: 0246-004
- Format: CD
- Number of items: 1
- Dimensions: 9.25″ h x 10.25″ w x 13.50″ l, 5.05 pounds
Features
It is expensive but at current prices, it is priced right First of all the following link provides a live demo of the camera: [...]
The Amazon page appears to be missing some basic specs on the camera so let’s get those out of the way. -Maximum resolution 704×576, 30 fps in all resolutions -zoom 18x optical -Min. illumination Color: 0.3lux B&W: 0.005 lux -Video codec MPEG-4 part 2, Motion JPEG -POE Nope -Comes with: Power supply, ceiling mount kit, Installation, CD with installation tools, recording software and User’s Manual, Windows decoder 1-user license.
So let’s start with probably the most important aspect of a security camera: image quality. This camera excels at that. Although it may not record at megapixel resolutions, the lens is of a high enough quality to produce clear images. Couple this with the 18x optical zoom, and you are able to peel the license plate off a car at quite a distance. Notice the 0.005 B&W lux sensitivity (the smaller the number the better), this number is very important if you intend on using the camera to capture outdoor activity at night. Even at this sensitivity you are not going to get usable images in a poorly lit area. But if you throw a few lights out there and make sure they don’t shine into the camera, you should be able to record something meaningful. However, night time shots are difficult even for the best of security cameras. Don’t expect that you will be able to clearly record detail of a fast moving object at night. Thus, if you are trying to record license plates, try to situate the camera so that vehicles will be driving directly towards it — this should minimized the apparent movement.
Ptz functionality: What can I say, it pans & scans quickly and quietly. You can set it to 20 preset positions, which you can flip through manually, or set the camera to automatically visit sequentially. When using the web interface, you can just click on whatever part of the image you want to focus on the and camera will figure out how to get there. If you want to zoom in on a specific area, then you just click and drag out a box, let go, and the camera will zoom in and pan appropriately.
More on the web interface: It is slick and functional. The first page you see is the live demo page, which allows you to control all of the ptz functions, plus the iris size, and focus. You can set the presets, and all of the other typical settings (IP, time, video, audio, users). I’ve tried the interface in IE and Firefox and it appears to work perfectly in both.
Software: I didn’t try the Axis’s software, I’m sure it is fine but it is also expensive. Instead, I opted for BlueIris. [...] software, and it does everything I need. It supports this camera, so you will be able to use the PTZ functions (although not quite as easily), and you will also be able to jump between preset locations.
In conclusion, if you are looking for a quality camera without going too high, this is a pretty safe bet.
Good quality Quite expensive PTZ camera, but what you get is way superior the competitions. The camera can easily pump 30FPS at 640×480. The PTZ is very fast and easy to control (I’m not using their software). It seems also very robust comparing to other cameras.

Customer Reviews:
Nice TV-Need a better remote. Recently purchased this TV. It must be a brand new model in the Philips 3000 series, as info is hard to come by. On high definition signal I am quite pleased with the set. Nice black levels with detail. Good face tones(Caucasian or Black) that are not green tinted by background green in the picture. Dennis Haybert looked great on The Unit. Digital tuner receives ALL local Digital signal in the KC area. Setup menu is easy to use with all major adjustments included.
Now the bad. Fuzzy, out of focus standard def from my satelitte. The S-Video jack produces a double image, much like ghosts on anolog over the air reception. The remote is just OK. It is small, dark colored and the labeling is useless for anyone who does not have perfect vision.
Overrall happy as most(95%) of my signals on DirecTV are HD. Would recommend to someone with mostly HD signals.
UPDATE: I returned this TV and exchanged straight up for a Vizio VW32l. I returned it because at times the face tones often took on cartoon like colorations, mostly on SD but occasionally on HD also. The Vizio is overall a better TV. Much better on Standard Def and only very slightly inferior on HD. Sorry that my initial review was overly opimistic.
A LCD that Will not disappoint I purchased this TV from Wal-Mart for the low price of $425. This TV looks and sounds awesome. I have it hooked into my PS3 with the HDMI and the games look crisp and beautiful my only complaint is in brighter scenes with lots of motion just on games you can see some fuzzy edges but with some adjustment this goes away.
The Good: Easy to use menus and set up. Great Picture quality for 720p (looks just as good as my friends Sony if not better) The sound is loud and well balanced. It looks nice and sleek Comes with a stand
The bad: The remote is ugly and the buttons are too small. (Buy a universal and this is fixed) Depending on the channel you have to adjust the screen colors sometimes. (No auto adjust)
Games: This TV looks great when I play My PS3 Modern Warfare 2 looks amazing as well as Fallout 3.
Wii also looks very nice up on the screen in wide screen mode.
Summary and last thought:
This TV is not the Top of the line by any means and should not be rated and compared as such. It’s like comparing Apples to Cell Phones it can’t be done. But as for what this TV is it is a great deal and for those of us on a budget it cannot be beat
9/10
Not a good image for an HD TV I have the same problem an earlier poster had, bad video coloring in HD. It’s especially notable on faces. I have 2 other HD tv’s, Vizio 720p and Sony 1080p, and get my video from DishNetwork in HD. Neither of these other tv’s have this problem and they all share the same video feed (HDMI connection from DishNetwork ViP722).
I’m fairly versed in TV tech so I went thru the video settings and tried to tweak them to get rid of the ‘cartoonish’ look, but I couldn’t find an acceptable setting. I reset everything to the default settings and it was still there.
I did a lot of research before finally buying this set at Walmart for $400 (price match against a sale unit at Target) and almost all reviewers praised its picture quality. I was very surprised and disappointed to find the image quality so poor. I will return it to Walmart and pick up a Vizio instead.
