Mirage Os3-Fs
Finally got these yesterday after a few weeks wait. Took a few minutes to get the settings dialed in with my Denon, but after that WOW! Excellent match with my Os3 Sats and Center.
In the past I’ve tried Sony’s, Polk, etc but it never did the trick. My living room is a rectangular shape with a pit group along a wall so I don’t really have that much play with speaker placement. The Mirage FS did the trick and rounded out my system.
Using a 7.0 setting on the Denon the whole room fills with balanced sound whether I’m listening to music or TV. Switched to Dolby PLIIxC and they fire out perfectly with surround that I did not have when other speakers were on my system.
Pros-Crisp sound, small footprint, nice glass base with carpet spikes, grills snap into place via magnetic dots and they look, well…cool.
Cons-Hard to move around as the gloss plastic is hard to get your hands around, took a few tries with placement before I got the sound to my liking.

A great screen for home theaters.
Despite the severe lack of product information, judging by the weight and suggested retail price I believe this is the 73″ screen. In the HDTV format, they have also have a 90″ screen which is the one I bought. These two HDTV screens use the Da-lite “Wide Power” screen surface which is similar to their well known “High Power” surface used by many home theater buffs. The gain of the Wide Power is slightly lower than the High Power (2.2 vs 2.4), but gives you a wider viewing angle (45 vs 30 degrees) so it actually works better for the average living room where some seating may be off to the side.
If you can’t mount a screen for your home theater, I highly recommend you take a look at one of these as an alternative. They work great and the Wide Power screen brightness allows the projector bulb to run in low mode, extending bulb life and thus a costly replacement. It also makes the picture really pop, and that’s why the High Power screens have gained such a following. Although these are portable screens, I just leave mine on the floor in front of all my other electronic gizmos and the black tube easily blends in.
I would recommend for anyone that is thinking of getting one of these to consider contacting the Amazon vendors for a price on the 90″ as I think the 73″ would be a bit small for most home theaters. You also need to be aware that because these are high gain retro-reflective screens, the projector should either be table-top or rear-shelf mounted rather than ceiling mounted.

Fast, with abundant storage
After purchasing my Canon EOS 1DmkIV (10 frames/second) I found the camera would stall in a few seconds using my old cards. Shooting a bird in flight would be suddenly interrupted at the most inconvenient times when the buffer filled, which was quite soon. With this card I can shoot unlimited RAW files at 10 fps without slowing at all. Shotting RAW+JPEG still slows things down after the buffer fills, but never stalls completely. If you need to shoot continuous action with a camera that produces large files, it wil not get any better than this until the next generation card comes along.
The card to have for the Canon 5D / 7D
Like some of the reviewers, I am using this card with the canon 5D Mk ii. The 90MB / sec speed allows you to shoot at the 5D’s maximum rate and not worry about it holding back the camera’s onboard buffer. My experience with the card so far has been fantastic – it makes shooting RAW images and HD video with the 5D completely manageable. Don’t let the price scare you away – you won’t regret the performance this card brings to the table, especially when you’re 900+ plus images into a shoot. Highly recommended, and kudos too for the Amazon vendor – I ordered this on a Thursday, and the card showed up on Saturday via registered mail. Awesome!
The Price of Megapixels and High Cycle Rates
Previously on Amazon, I have favorably reviewed CF cards at successively higher standards of capacity and write performance. This is my current champion. It is expensive but enables me to keep a 5D Mk2 pumping out RAWs without the camera stalling while waiting for the buffer to clear. Slower cards (133x, 300x) will stop the camera, but I’ve never been halted when using one of these 600x cards. A smaller version (e.g. 16GB) would have the same virtue at a lower price, but with RAWs on the order of 25MB apiece, one has to have speed and capacity in the same card. (I did previously buy one of the 16GB versions of this card as a “low-cost experiment,” and it’s fine for shorter jobs.)
I give four stars instead of five because of a fluky issue with sometimes (only sometimes) having the card not recognized at first when connected to a computer for download. This has happened with two of these cards using two different Firewire readers on three different machines running two different operating systems, and it hasn’t happened with the 16GB version or with any other cards, so I think it’s a card thing, not a “me” thing. It always works after a few disconnect-reconnect tries, but it does make a fellow nervous. A bit of a mystery, but not one to make me use slower, smaller cards.
