Outstanding ultra-wide5
How can this outstanding ultra wide micro four thirds lens not have any reviews? I’m not a professional photographer, but I can’t sit by idly while this lens is denied its proper accolades.

First, an ultra-wide lens is very useful. The difference between 7mm and 14mm is enormous. The broad field of view at 7mm lets you take amazing landscape pictures. More importantly, the ultra-wide angle lets you take close ups of objects while preserving their relationship to the objects around them. And most importantly, the ultra-wide angle lets you take pictures in close or cramped quarters that simply would not be possible with any other lens. At 9mm you can sit in the corner of a room and take a picture of the entire room!!! During filming, you can zoom out from 14mm to 7mm to create a dramatic effect that cannot be achieved with another lens.

Second, this is an excellent choice among all ultra-wides. slrgear tested it and found it to provide excellent image quality. It is ideally suited to the Panasonic G1/GH1/GF1 and the Olympus E-P1 because it is the only ultra-wide lens available for micro four thirds that will auto-focus and auto-expose during movies. Auto-focus and auto-exposure are quiet enough under normal conditions that I can’t hear them. Auto-focus hunting is minimal. As of firmware version 1.1 (dated 2009/11/25), this lens officially supports auto-focus in 1080p24 FHD movies. It is incredibly light (only 300 grams) when compared to similar lenses in other formats. The next most compact ultra-wide zoom is the otherwise excellent Olympus Zuiko 7-14mm f/4.0 Aspherical Super ED Lens for Olympus Digital SLR Cameras, which weighs 480g more (ie., 2.6x) and costs 700 dollars more.

Now the bad news…. Flash is problematic. The wide hood at the end of the lens blocks the on-camera flash in the wide field of view that this lens provides and will cast an ugly shadow right in the bottom middle in your frame. So if you take a flash picture with this lens, your picture will have a dark spot in the center bottom where the lens blocked the on-camera flash :( I’m not sure if a hot-shoe mounted flash can solve this problem because I haven’t found any that are rated down to 7mm. This is annoying since at f4.0 this lens isn’t fast enough for low light photography without a flash.

And finally, my druthers. My favorite use of this lens is photographing tight indoor spaces, where I am always wishing for a faster lens. So I wish this lens was faster, even though it would be much more expensive. But even exactly as it is, it is hands-down my favorite m43rds lens. If you have a GH1 with the 14-140mm kit lens, I highly recommend this as your second lens.

Amazing lens and amazingly small…5
This lens has been very hard to get for awhile now and it is certainly not cheap. It does, however, deliver the goods. It is a stunningly good performer and its diminutive size demonstrates the advantage the micro-four-thirds has in wide angle optics solutions with the elimination of the mirror-box. The G1+7-14 looks almost comically small sitting next to my Canon 400D+10-22 – and the 7-14 actually goes wider than the 10-22.

Please keep in mind that this is a UWA, so when I and other reviewers praise it we are doing so in the context of a UWA lens. That means expect the corners to not be perfectly sharp, no UWA lens achieves this. But this lens has great center sharpness and corner sharpness the keeps up with the best competition. Simply stunning results. If you’ve never shot UWA come to the table with the right expectations, if you have UWA experience I think you’ll be very impressed.

Flare performance is excellent, comparable to the Canon 10-22 which is another great flare performer.

Be advised, no filter attachment is practical with this lens. This is usually not a problem as polarizers are less frequently useful on UWA lenses (effect will vary dramatically over such a wide viewing angle) and for a digital camera few other filters are useful.

Is it worth the price? Well, that is a hard call as it is not a cheap lens. Right now it is your only option for micro-four-thirds. Comparing to other systems the Canon 10-22 is probably comparable and cheaper. So yes, I think you are paying a bit of a micro-four-thirds premium. That said, once you put it on a micro-four-thirds body and hold it in your hand and look at the results it is a whole new ball game to have something this small with such excellent UWA performance – there is nothing else like it out there. If you are a UWA shooter I strongly suspect you’ll find it well worth the cost, its portable size and tremendous performance make it a landscape or architecture photographers dream solution for compact/lightweight gear.

Finally, note that in early 2010 Olympus is planning on releasing a micro-four-thirds 9-18mm lens that will likely be significantly cheaper (probably 40% less). It of course won’t go as wide (and there is quite a difference between 7mm and 9mm) and will likely not be as good in the IQ department, but it will use a 52mm filter and might be a more attractive price point for many buyers. As far as that goes you can pry my 7-14 from my cold, dead fingers if you’d like to try…

A No Compromises Compact Ultra Wide5
I wanted a high quality, lightweight ultra-wide lens to take hiking in the mountains of Colorado. The Lumix 7-14mm on my Panasonic GF1 replaces my previous UWA, the Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 that I used on my Nikon D300.

Advantages vs Sigma 10-20mmm f4-5.6
* Smaller and lighter
* Constant f4 aperture
* Better build quality
* Integrated lens hood
* Very sharp across the entire frame, even wide open
* Little barrel distortion @7mm.

Disadvantages vs Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6
* Much more expensive
* No filter thread

I occasionally used a circular polarizer with my Sigma to increase color saturation and contrast, but the effect is pretty uneven on ultra wide lenses. The Lumix 7-14mm has very good contrast and color, so I don’t really miss the polarizer unless I want to reduce water reflections or glare from foliage.

If you shoot landscapes with a M4/3 camera, you’ll love this little gem!

Football games won’t be the same!5
I upgraded my 120hz Vizio to this model for my family room and can’t believe the clearity! The colors are crisp, the picture is 2nd to none. You can actually see the laces on a football while in the air on a spiral. For the difference in price from the 120 to the 240hz spend it! I did and have 0 regrets. The best TV I’ve ever watched mutchless in my own home!

Vizio SV421XVT – Almost perfect.. almost.4

The Vizio SV421XVT, is a very nice 42 inch lcd TV. With 120hz refresh rate, and 240hz scenes per second, this television offers depth perception found only in high end LED TVs. But it is not all gum drops and fairy tales.

This Vizio does NOT offer the bluetooth remote and internet apps. The TruSurround and TruVolumn leave a lot to be desired, and then, you have the Zero Bright Pixel Defect Guarantee, which in reality is not much of a guarantee at all.

I have taken much time compiling the info for this review, and I want to be very clear on one fact, Amazon’s Customer Support is true American loyalty. The staff is top notch!

Vizio is the leading TV seller in the US due to its calibrations with Wal-Mart, Sears, Dell, and Amazon. Our experience with Vizio has been a rocky one.

We are very particular about our lcd TVs and we bought this SV421XVT based solely on the Zero Bright Pixel Guarantee. We called Vizio 3 times before purchase to make sure that this guarantee covers “stuck, bright, and dead” pixels. Their answer, YES!

We could not find this within 100 miles of our home, Vizio wanted $1600 + for it, and Dell has poor customer support in addition to not standing behind Vizio’s Zero Bright Pixel Defect guarantee. So we opted for Amazon, free shipping, A-Z guarantee, and NO SALES TAX!

The first Vizio we received through Amazon came via Pilot. Pilot is a very terrible delivery service, at least in Southern Ohio. No precalls, and our television sat 1hour away for 5 days, before delivery. Then to top that off, we had to press them to deliver it by the latest date of delivery, for they wanted to wait an additional 5 days.

When the Vizio arrived in our home it had a stuck pixel, stuck in the red cycle of red, green, and blue, and it also had a video overlay problem. We called Amazon and they were very helpful, not 5 minutes on the phone, and a new one was shipped that day, for a switch out in our home.

That is when Pilot dropped the ball again. They delivered our replacement but once more failed to precall and had a very lazy attitude towards the delivery. When they arrived, they stated they had no paper work for the pick up of the unit with the stuck pixel and informed us they were required to leave both TVs at our home. So once again a call to Amazon. Amazon was once more VERY VERY helpful and had Pilot back to our home the very next.

Again we had to press pilot for a pick – up time, and when they finally arrived they were an hour late. But alas the TV was returned to Amazon, and we were not charged.

But our experience with this SV421XVT does not end there. The second unit delivered to our home had a red stuck pixel and again a video overlay issue. The video overlay issue is only visible on 720p where is appears as a white vertical line down the right side on the screen, and a black vertical line at 1080p. This issue is noticeable on all HDMI inputs. Since we buy and sale HDMI cables, we were able to cycle through new cables, and verify that is was not interference within the cable. We also hooked it to a PS3 and an Xbox 360, and it was evident on both devices.

This time we decided Amazon was not responsible for Vizio’s poor technology.

It is important for me to once again stress that although the screen had issues, the picture looked beautiful. The depth perception is dazzling with the Smooth Motion Technology and 50,000:1 contrast ratio, your breath will be taken away.

So a call to Vizio led us to a road block. Vizio after stating otherwise three times prior, informed us they do not cover dead/bright pixels, and that this LCD TV does not have the Zero Bright Pixel Guarantee. We had to inform them it does, and that is states it clearly on their website.

They eventually admitted that this SV421XVT does have a Zero Bright Pixel Guarantee, but it does NOT cover dead pixels, contrary to their previous answers. They also informed us that they were aware of the video overlay issue, and that most of their TVs have it, and that they do not service this problem. Mind you this all occurred over 2 days of multiple phone calls to Vizio’s technical support.

We felt as if we were in the circus, for the hoops we had to jump through, just to prove we did in fact own this SV421XVT, and that is was not working properly.

Vizio demanded we take a picture of the single stuck pixel, and that the picture had to have the pixel visible, as well as show the entire front of the 42″ TV. That’s right, they wanted me to stand back, and be able to capture the equivalent to the end of pen, as well as display the entire front of the TV, turned on, and the Vizio logo readable. WOW! That is crazy.

Well I pressed the fact that this was not possible, and demanded they try it themselves. I asked that they send out s service man, and they said we need the pictures. I once again informed them that is was not possible, and I wanted $750 worth of perfect LCD screen, just what I paid for, so the tech. transferred me to a “Level 3″ technician.

The Level 3 technician was a little easier to deal with, and after much convincing that I did in fact own this TV, and sending the best pictures possible, informed me that I would receive a white glove in home switch out.

Well 2 weeks later, a very good freight company arrived with a new TV. They unpacked the LCD and allowed us to cycle through red, green, and blue screens to insure that there were no stuck pixels. There was none. We are now happy.

To sum it up, Amazon is an A+ company. Pilot delivery is worthless. Vizio puts on a good face to sale their product, but does not want to stand behind it. The SV421XVT has a picture quality that truly high definition, but finding a unit without issues is hard.

Vizio SV421XVT – Almost perfect… almost.

UPDATE!!!!!

Please, all readers, attention. We have developed ANOTHER BIRGHT STUCK PIXEL on the right hand middle side of the screen. This time for service, we used a 10 mega pixel camera, and took multiple pictures of the tv. As Vizio requires you must have a picture of the full face plate, the pixel, and the menu. We did everything required to have our current Vizio serviced…. everything and more.

We even went as far as circling the pixel on a few pictures, the response from Vizio, we can’t see it, and corporate offices cannot see it either. Vizio stated that they will not even send out a technician, because the rep. said “We will not service another, this TV without better pictures.” did you read what I heard, he messed up and said “another.” They seen the pixel and they know that all of thier units have them. Nice way to push the responsibility off onto the customer!

This is the third SV421XVT, we have had, it is the third to have a stuck bright pixel, and this one even has a faint over lay issue as well, which we were able to adjust out of the screen. This is the last Vizio product we ever purchase.

Hands down it does offer one of the most stunning pictures on the market, but at nearly $900 on Amazon, and over $1000, at Vizio, a company should stand behind its product and show real support for it’s customer, Vizio just doesn’t do it.

On a side note we own a 1 year old Sony Bravia 40″ LCD, and we have had no issue what so ever from it. It is only 60hz, and has low contrast, but out of the box from Wal-Mart, we have had not a single problem! NOTHING!

My advice to Vizio… you either stand behind your products, or stand down!

I’m no techie – but this is a great TV!4
I did my research and did my research and this is a GREAT TV. Perfect! Easy to set up – simply remove from package and power it on! Remote Control and inputs are clearly marked and easy to use. If you need to look at the user manual, it is NOT technical so you can figure out how to hook up your computer/mp3 player or whatever!

And the delivery – I was a little nervous when I learned it would be a “carrier” and not UPS/FEDEX….but they were AWESOME! I’d buy again just for the AWESOME customer service from the carrier.

Customer Reviews:

Powerful machine5
I received this shredder just the other day and it is powerful. It shreds everything very quickly and efficiently. In fact, I shredded a lot of junk mail. I would just stick the entire unopened envelope into the machine and it would chew it up. The credit card and CD feature is very handy as well. You just drop the card into the slot.

If you are shedding a lot of stuff, I found it easiest to set the box of material on top of the machine and keep feeding it. With smaller machines, the motor overheads and you have to give it 1/2 hr to cool off. I didn’t have this problem with this unit. Just keep oiling the blades whenever you hear a squeaking sound when the blades stop.

Do realize that since it is a cross cut output, the waste is fluffy. You have to crush it down and eventually empty the trash. You can use the typical yard waste bag as opposed to the OEM trash bag.

Happy Shredding….

Customer Reviews:

Great quality, picture and features!5
I searched long and hard to find all the features I wanted in a projector and this is the one I decided on. After I found this one I had a hard time finding any reviews for it except for the one on Projector Reviews. To assist others I decided to write one as well.
First of all, I have to say I am very impressed right from the get go when I set up the projector. The picture quality is amazing. I had a slightly older projector in place already but this one blew it out of the water. I use the 826W in my home theater. However, the projector was designed for the educator in classroom and is considered a multimedia projector.

(My setup) The projector is set on a shelf behind the couch and up high. I am projecting on a 92″ 16×9 screen from about 14.5′ feet away. I had a very specific setup I wanted to maintain and the Epson Powerlite 826W fit the bill perfectly. The reason why it did is because of the 1.6 zoom. Most projectors I found in this price range and even more expensive ones come with a very limited zoom 1.2. The 1.2 zoom did not offer the flexibility needed which is a big plus especially if you ever try to change your setup.

PROS (Home Theater Setup)
2500 Lumens – very bright and perfect for daytime watching, the picture does not get washed out.

1.6 zoom – great flexibility for perfect placement.

Two VGA ports – I have mine connected to a PC, Xbox 360, PS3, HDTV box, and DVD player. All look great and have had no problems with switching between them. It will actually save your settings for each connection.

5000-6000 hour lamp life – Big, Big plus! I have not found another projector with this type of lamp life. Even the other Epson projectors, which tend to have the best lamps, don’t go this long.

Picture – WXGA resolution (Native: 1280×800 Maximum: 1600×1200 Aspect Ratio: 16:10) – with my settings I do not see any pixels. Picture and text is sharp and clear. Several color settings in the menu for theater, dynamic, presentation, whiteboard, blackboard ,sports, and photo. Additional settings for contrast, brightness, color, tint, sat, etc. You can also change the aspect ratio to 16:9 and a few others.

Fan – brightest is at 35db (you can hear it at this level but it does not distract, especially when you are watching something. I would assume if you are using it for a home theater you will have a decent speaker setup, like me, so it was no problem at all.) Eco mode 28db (at this level you can’t hear it at all and the projector is still very bright.)

Remote – nothing fancy just convenient features such as; aspect ratio button and color settings which you can change on the fly. This is helpful when you switch between components.

Internet features – I have not explored these yet because I do not plan on using them but if you are they are there at your exposal . You could also connect wirelessly with a separate adapter.

Price – I bought mine for $800.00, with all these features and quality can’t beat it.

Warranty – 2 years and you’re dealing with Epson. One of the best in customer service.

CONS
No HDMI port – It would have been nice to have a least one of these. Not that big of a deal to me because it does include two VGA ports, composite, and S-video. I have both VGA ports connected to an additional cable sold by Cables Unlimited. The cable splits the output so you can still use it as a VGA or Component. Works perfectly for me.

Contrast is only 2000.1 – This is to be expected because it is not designed to be a home theater projector. Would have like to see at least 3000.1. Blacks are slightly grey but still look good, obviously pop a little more with all the lights out .

OVERALL
I am very pleased with my purchase and would recommend to others. There are other little features that the 826W offers that I did not cover. You can check them out at Epson’s website or on Projector Central. I hope this review helps with deciding with your purchase!!

Customer Reviews:

Well worth it at any price!5
I am ABSOLUTELY thrilled I purchased them. They were professionally installed to my factory NAV stereo system. They produce “live-studio” quality sound with clear separation between notes and a powerful response. You will hear all of the instruments. It impressed the pros to ask me where to get them. And, they told me about the top-grade materials/workmanship used in manufacturing. There’s zero distortion when I crank-up the volume (3/4 max) before my ears bleed. I will need a remote and some serious distance to go to max volume. I am not an audiophile but I have paid the money for (Denon, Yamaha, Onkyo, Nakamichi, Bose, B&O, etc.) stereo equipment. It’s truly high-end audio-quality sound without spending all that money.

Like others, I heard the cautious “don’t buy MB Quart because” they were bought by Maxxsonics and are (1). No longer a German company (2). The quality is not good. But FIRST, No one that said this to me ever heard or installed them. SECOND, Maxxsonics is an American (California) company and if I am going to take a chance on quality then why not American? THIRD, the speakers are still manufactured in Germany. FOURTH, the Premium-Series is 3 levels above their “factory-installed” speaker replacement recommendation.

Lastly, I called Maxxsonics because I got a lot of conflicting installation advice. Also, I needed one extra measurement that I could not find anywhere else. Not only did they answer the phone but they quickly pulled the speaker out of the box to get the information I needed. We talked about configurations and sorted thru all the stuff I was told. They knew I was buying the speakers from someone else and they sent a follow-up email afterwards. That translates to excellent customer service.

Here’s my setup: a Jeep Liberty (2002-2006) with factory-installed NAV stereo system. The factory amps found in the front doors were connected to the MBs. The speaker openings are larger than 6.5 inches so adaptive brackets were used. The tweeters fit perfectly. Forget what anyone says – you do not have to buy shallow-mount speakers for the rear doors. The factory-speakers we pulled out were full-sized. The MB crossovers have 4 settings (0, -1, -3 and -5). I chose zero because I usually set treble at +2. To test the speakers I burned a cd with songs that had lots of transitions, deep-deep bass lows and really-high end notes. The MBs played it like I was sitting in front of a live band. There’s no other stereo equipment in my car. Anybody can spend $5k and get great sound – but do it for less than $500.

I think one reviewer said it best ” BUY THEM.”

Oh, sweet mystery of life I’ve found you.5
From the minute I opened the box and felt the weight of the magnets – running my thumbs along the rubber-reinforced polypropylene cones – I knew I’d found what I was looking for.

Finding flaws in audio samples is a sickness I’ve been plagued with since MP3 outpaced CDA. When I dropped these bad boys in my 99 Civic, I was just about cured.

One note: because the factory grills/mounting spot in my Civic was a bit narrow, I had to cut into it to mount them. But amazing sound comes at a price.

Pros:
Solid materials, ingenious construction and the clearest sound I’ve heard in a car yet. I can’t turn my head unit high enough to distort these babies.

Cons:
I gotta divert extra balance wattage to these BC my rear deck Pioneers would totally blow pushing what the Quarts can handle.
Highs are quite bright. Tune the tweeters down a few DB with the x-overs if you don’t have a full system (amp+subs)

Great Sound5
When you buy top of the line speakers you expect good things but these are simply great! The speakers are build very well, you can tell that they engineered them in every aspect. These speakers where designed with options in mind, if you want to use them in a Coax configuration you can, it’s simple to unscrew the center cone and screw the tweeter stand in it’s place, the wires for the tweeter pass though the center of the speaker cone and out the other side. The Crossover is build like a tank, it’s heavy and very solid. The internal components are very big, and it has a feeling of being over build. To magnets on the speaker are small but very powerful! The magnets on the tweeters are as big as the tweeter itself and will fly out of your hand if you get them to close to anything metal!

The sound from the tweeters is very good, its not like dome tweeters at all. when listening to music the sound from the tweeters spreads out around you so you have a feeling of not knowing where it comes from. The speakers sound amazingly clear and precise at any volume.

Ill only buy Xerox from now on!5
This printer is simply amazing. Blazingly fast, super crisp, sharp, high resolution text output. I have been a long time user of HP printers. Mainly because everywhere I worked they had HP. Wow talk about guilty of being a lemming! Never again! Xerox makes far superior printers. Some of the reasons I am now a loyal Xerox customer:

1) Cross platform drivers. Xerox actually cares enough to write drivers for Windows, Linux, and OS X. I proudly only buy Apple computers and come from a UNIX background. So to see Xerox put in the effort and cost to write and maintain cross platform driver support tells me they care about the customer regardless of platform.

2) Dollar for dollar the Xerox won out over HP in speed, output resolution, cross platform support and features. This printer has network and automatic duplex support, supports Postscript 3, 1200 dpi, 30 pages per minute, and on top of that one of the fastest processors found in printers in this price range.

3) It’s in the details dummy. Having used HP printers in the past I have had to connect via a Mac to the printer using a network connection to configure JetDirect. NOT A FAN! HP put no effort into a decent web based connection application to configure the printer over the network. Xerox not only put effort into it, the web feature is fast, easy to understand, works on any of the three supported platforms (which is more than I can say for HP) and makes configuring and upgrading the printers firmware dead simple.

4) Speed. This printer comes stock with 32MB of memory. While I think Xerox drank some drug spiked koolaid to think I am paying $500+ dollars for the 128MB memory module upgrade (thats more than the printer itself!) they offer, I am very happy with the stock 32MB of ram. This thing prints blazingly fast! It’s started printing everything I have thrown at it in under 6 seconds even from sleep mode.

5) Noise. While I am sure someone can point out a printer that prints quieter, this is one of the quietest printers I have ever used. HP’s have been loud and clunky. The Phaser has about half the noise output of any HP I have ever owned.

Xerox has been around for ever. Before buying this printer I had always thought they were mainly making big large digital print hardware for newspapers and magazines. No one I know has or ever had a Xerox printer.
I have learned from the error of my ways. HP is like windows. It may sell more printers than anyone but being number one does not equate to being the best or the best quality. I took a chance on this printer based simply on reading the specs for it. There were very few reviews for it. However the specs matched what I was looking for and then some. The price was reasonable for the feature set and very competitive with the other printer manufacturers. So I took a gamble and purchased the Phaser 3250DN as my first experience with Xerox. I have never been happier with the quality of a product than I am with the Phaser 3250DN. If you want the best printer on the market I strongly recommend the Xerox Phaser line. I can’t say enough good things about it! Xerox makes far better printers than HP. I am a solid lifelong convert to Xerox now.

Excellent text to support superb speed.5
This is my first laser printer purchase. Infact,I have never purchased any kind of printer before. I had bought Hp officejet pro 8000 just few days ago but got annoyed by warming up and slow speed of that inkjet. I returned it back within a week.I cannot compare inkjet with laser.
Xerox printer software is very simple to install with no crapware as compare to the Hp i got before. It was really straightforward to install the toner for a printer newbie like me. It printed the test page within 30 seconds and i was astonished to see that the text was much superior to the laser printer at my college.
In windows vista, it shows that i have two printer i.e xerox 3250 and xerox 3250 ps. The latter showing the postscript 3 functionality.So far,I have not found any difference between two. It is fast and is far less noisy than the laser printer at my college. I love the duplex functionality which is near fast as printing on second page. I wonder why printer makers still have single sided only printer with no duplex functionality, that is waste of paper. It has not dim the lights so far even in my small apartment.
The only con:
I have not found a way to see how much ink is left in the toner.

Xerox Phaser 3250/DN Mono Laser5
I needed a home printer with postscript 3 (DN model). I use it for home and some freelance graphic design work. I like Xerox printers as I have worked with Xerox high end color printers in the workplace. I tried to buy this printer locally (Cincinnati) but I couldn’t find one or the printer was on back order. I found it on Amazon it shipped and arrived no problem. I have it connected to my Mac and at some point my husband will want to network it – we have not tried that yet.
